It was at that point when the mean kids stopped saying things like “Cirkus! What are you a clown or something?” I was done clowning around. “When this Cirkus comes to town, everybody hide,” was uniquely mine. In the last class of my Advertising Design curriculum at ArtCenter, the professor (so to speak), was giving every graduating student their own headline to take with them. Bullies were relentless with their 'dut dut dutta dutta dut dut duh, dut dut dutta dutta dut dut duh’s - doing their best to tease me with their version of my apparent theme song, “Entry of The Gladiators,” a march by Julius Fučík, or as most kids knew it - circus music. Growing up with the last name Cirkus was no blessing in public school. It wasn’t until his great grandson, my great grandfather Sam, emigrated to Brooklyn in the early 1900’s that our last name’s spelling was changed to Cirkus. Leib Sirkus, my great great great great grandfather, was from Zloczów in the Lviv Oblast of Ukraine, which was part of the Austrian monarchy until 1918. The workshop is also part of the annual program of "HALA 100" organised by the contemporary circus collective ROOM 100, which is implemented with the financial support of the Kultura nova Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Institut français in Croatia.My family name has been traced back, roughly eight generations, to The Sirkus Family of Galicia. The workshop is part of the Inbal Ben Haim tour, which is supported by Teatroskop - a program launched by the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs, the French Ministry of Culture and the Institut français Paris.
In her work, she combines contemporary circus, dance, theatre, sculpture and improvisation. She began her circus education in Israel, in 2021 she moved to France, where she first attended the Piste d’Azur school and then the CNAC academy. Inbal Ben Haim is an Israeli circus artist and laureate of the circusnext edition 2020-2021 with the performance "PLI" in which she explores doing aerial techniques on specially designed paper. Prior knowledge of any aerial discipline is required to participate in the workshop.

Playing with our weight, our anatomical structure, spiral movements and rhythms, the workshop explores how to work effortlessly to be completely free in our artistic expression.
Inspired by various techniques between martial arts and contact dance, we will look for new ways of supporting, creating knots and hanging on a rope, to get out of the familiar figures and find new patterns of evolution. /////// We are inviting you to the workshop "Vertical poetry - research, technique and movement on a vertical rope" with Inbal Ben Haim, which will be held Mala scena Doma mladih on June 7th 2022 from 17:00 to 20:00. Čistom grafikom užeta i tijela nastojat ćemo nacrtati moćne slike koje odzvanjaju i pronaći našu osobnu poeziju u zraku. Igrajući se našom težinom, našom anatomskom strukturom, spiralnim pokretima i ritmovima, radionica istražuje rad bez napora s ciljem da budemo potpuno slobodni u našem umjetničkom izričaju. Inspirirani raznim tehnikama između borilačkih vještina i kontaktnog plesa, tražit ćemo nove načine podupiranja, iznenađujućih petlji i višenja na užetu, kako bismo izašli iz poznatih figura i pronašli nove obrasce evolucije.
